How Can I PAY For College???

my GPA isnt so high but i did good on my SATs

I am either hoping i get lucky with early admissions and go to columbia university(about 40,000)

or go to Penn State (about 35,000) which i have a good chance of going to...

i checked out many scholarships and most of them only offer a few thousand and my parents are very stingy and help from them is very unlikely

im wondering if i can get a government loan

btw im born in montreal, quebec, canada.... but i do have a perminent residence card... and i can apply for citizenship after my first year of college... i already live, go to school, WORK, and PAY TAX in Michigan already... is there gonna be a problem of me getting a student loan???

You are most likely ineligible for government loans since you are a non-citizen. However, you can get a private loan for the first year if you have a US Citizen cosign it with you.

Additionally, I recommend the US State Department's Website on FinAid for Foreign Students (http://www.educationusa.state.gov/finaid... I know from working with Canadian Students that many of them get support from their government, but I can't speak for that exact process. I am sure though that the Embassy would have more information about that though.

You can't get a government loan unless you join a credit union. Right now they are paying for college who have been join to the union about a year or so.

That's nice, your parents are stingy. If your parents pay for you to attend college that's nice. But it's not something they owe you. They raised your for a least 18 years, put food in your face, a roof over your head and made sure you got a high school education. College is a privilege not a right.

If College is something you wanted, particularly Penn State or Columbia you should have been working and saving money while you were in high school for college.

If you are not a US citizen so don't expect to get assistance from the USA to attend college. It's hard enough for students from here to get student loans as it is.

How Can I PAY For College???

This is a pretty standard question. Without spending too much time in a financial aid office, there is plenty you can do get the process started.

Start by going to http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ and filling out the online form for federal student aid. After finding out what you are eligible for in terms of subsidized stafford loans, you can figure out if that is enough to finance your tuition and expenses. In most cases, it isn't. If you find that you need more money then you are offered, you may want to try a private student loan.

The best thing to do is compare the different private lenders out there, which can be done at http://www.finaid.org/loans/privatestude...

Most of the rates are very similar but do a little research and pick one that you think is best. I would suggest Think Financial. The application process is very quick and easy, and the check is sent directly to you so you can use the money for whatever you want. The limits are much higher with private student loans, up to $40,000 per year. You can find out more information about a Think loan at http://www.thinkfinancial.com . Good Luck.
