Paying for college on my own with rich parents, please read?

Hello!

I am paying for college completely on my own, and the fasfa isn't helping me, my father makes too much. I am applying for scholarships everyday, and continuing to look for grants. My school costs about 19k a year, and the stafford loan is a joke in comparison to that amound of money. I have no cosigners for loans, but have a credit score of 632. I am going to a community college and transferring because it is cheaper that way, but I still need the additional 20k for my state school. Do you know of a loan that does not require a cosigner? Or maybe a loan that requires %26quot;X%26quot; credit score to recieve a loan? (That way I have hope) Please contact me. Thank you so much!

go back to fasfa... you can submit a letter that states that your parents are not giving you any financial support and then you will be eligible.

Fafsa will give you a lot of trouble for trying to %26quot;explain that you are paying for college on your own%26quot;. Truth is so is practically everyone else. In a country whose credit card deficit is absolutely outrageous it is easy to find that parents increasingly do not have savings. I am in college now and I don't know anyone who's parents are paying for their college. I got married and that worked great for getting out of this problem (and you actually have to be married at the exact moment you file your fafsa! even if you will be married in the future during the use of the aid). However, unless your engaged you do have the option to legally emancipate yourself just a few celebs have done when their parents would take all their money. So yeah.... you might need some legal advise... hope this helps!

Let me get this right, you need $20,000 to go to a state community college? I find that difficult to believe, since community colleges are designed to be inexpensive and entry level schools. Even most state four year colleges aren't quite that high and I live and work in a state where the state university isn't that high, yet. Are you including living expenses in this figure? Are you going to a college out of state? If so then you need to consider going closer to home and living at home. You cannot simply *tell fafsa your parents aren't paying for college* it doesn't work that way, the regulations state that students and parents are the ones responsible for college costs first. And parents being unwilling to complete the FAFSA is specifically prohibited as a reason to make you independent. Most alternative loans will require a co-signer if you are under-employed or have poor credit, but try Sallie Mae, or Bank of America, or Key One for their alternative loan options.
